Tim Jensen is Adjunct Professor, Study of Religions, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, & Honorarprofessor, Institut für Religionswissenschaft, Leibniz University, Hannover. Jensen has been at the University of Southern Denmark since 1995. Over the years, he has also served as Professor and Gastwissenschaftler at Leibniz University, Senior Research Fellow at Ural Federal University, Ekatarinburg, Russia, and External Lecturer at the University of Aarhus, Denmark. Before 1995 he was a lecturer,teaching religion and ancient Greek culture, at a gymnasium, as well as executive director of a private consultancy on religion, education & culture.
He has served as director of the Institute for Philosophy and Religion, as well as director of the Department for the Study of Religions at the University of Southern Denmark. He has been President of DASR, Danish Association for the Study of Religion (1997-2005), Secretary General of the EASR, European Association for the Study of Religions (2000-2004), Secretary General of IAHR, International Association for the History of Religions (2005-2015), and IAHR President (2015-). 2020-2023 he served as CIPSH Deputy Secretary General.
His main areas of research are religion and honor in the Homeric epics, study-of-religion methodology & theory, religion in/and human rights, notions of religion in contemporary public and political discourses, state handling of religion, religion education in public schools, and possible roles of scholars of religion in the public sphere.
