From 18 to 19 March 2016 the Steering Committee of the International Network for the Silk Road Online Platform will meet in Valencia, Spain. The meeting will be organized in collaboration with the UNESCO Center of Valencia and the Municipality of Valencia. It aims to prepare the agenda of the Second Meeting of International Network to be held in Valencia in June 2016.
The meeting will be held in the margins of the “Las Fallas” festival which is one of the most important traditional celebrations on silk in Valencia. The city is the only one in Spain that still makes silk weaving on manual looms. Every year, it commemorates its long Silk Roads history with the participation of hundreds of thousands of participants in the different manifestations organized during three days.
The Fallas festivity has brought about a resurgence of traditional Valencian costumes, bringing back styles from the 18th century. Each Fallas exposes critical content of social life and pays tribute to beauty of the local silk dresses.
