Luisa Migliorati is an archaeologist, past professor at Rome Sapienza University, Department of Ancient World Studies, teaching ancient Topography, Cartography and Urbanism since 1979 until 2022, when she retired. She was coordinator of Ancient Topography curriculum in PhD Archaeology School in Sapienza and Director of the Dept. Laboratory of Cartography.
At present, she is professor of Ancient Topography at UNITELMA – Sapienza Università di Roma and Member of its Teaching Board for the Interdisciplinary Master’s Degree Course “Classical Archaeology”. Since 2015 she holds almost regularly scheduled teaching assignment in Ancient Urbanism at Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán – Faculty of Architecture.
She is a member of the Board of the Union Académique Internationale (UAI) and the World Philology Union (WPU), Corresponding Member of the Pontificia Accademia Romana di Archeologia and of the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Romani.
She is director of the Italian section of the international enterprise Tabula Imperii Romani-Forma Orbis Romani under the patronage of UAI and UAN.
She has been director of several national and international projects and actually holds consultancy positions related to archaeology, restoration, musealization.
She is a past member of the Dept. Committee and of the Supervision Committee of “Lettere e Filosofia” Faculty, and past Director of the Degree course in Archaeology.
In 2009 she was awarded the International Price “Sebetia-Ter” for Archaeology, silver plaque of the President of the Italian Republic.
Her field interests cover : Ancient Topography and Urbanism, Heritage buildings, Ancient architecture, Ancient cartography, Mexico Colonial urbanism. Among her field activities (excavations and surveys) are: the Roman town of Peltuinum, an all-round research on a non-permanent settlement near L’Aquila (Abruzzi-Italy), and the Agrippa Bath investigation in Rome, developing the topics of Campus Martius urbanism and of the integration of Heritage Buildings in their context.
